MORPH
SFX ummMMMP
SFX loud crashing wave breaking; Under water struggle... Gasping for breath,
he spins upwards in a fierce spiral of water and bubbles.
FX WAVE BREAKING UNDER THE WATER
EXT. DAY. OCEAN POV
SLOW MOTION: Camera angle from surface of ocean water behind the broken
wave, a wave has just crashed, and the back of the head of a long-blond
haired 18 year old boy rises out of the surf
Turning his head to look around and face the camera, he gasps in sudden
fear
SFX uMMMMP!
EXT. DEAD BODIES ON WATER
Camera zooms back and focuses on dead bodies floating and bobbing in the
water all around him. The bodies are in focus momentarily,
EXT. DAY. CU RICK'S FACE
His face comes back into focus...and suddenly looks more shocked
INS INDIA RIVER SCENE OF DEAD BODIES
The camera shifts focus from Rick's face back to the bodies.
MORPH
EXT./FX RICK'S POV
Then one of the bodies rolls over to face upwards. It's the grinning face
of his friend 18 year old GREG TREADWAY, lying on top of a surfboard.
GREG:
Man, you got crunched!!!
RICK
(exasperated)
Shit, I lost my board!!
EXT. AFTERNOON. SURF TO BEACH
Rick & Greg swim and paddle ashore, where Rick runs down the shoreline
and retrieves his missing board. Camera on tracks follows them from the
surf as they run up the beach...
EXT. AFTERNOON. THE BEACH.
A third youth, 17-year-old drummer R-MOE tosses Rick a towel.
R-MOE:
Hurry up, man! We got a Battle of the Bands to win tonight!
RICK:
No sweat!
EXT. AFTERNOON. STEPS OF SWAMI'S CLIFF
The three youths walk up the steps, all are carrying long-boards. They're
wearing baggy surfer shorts and striped T-shirts.
EXT. AFTERNOON. SRF AT THE TOP OF THE CLIFF
We see a grand Indian-style temple, the Self Realization Fellowship, surrounded
by its neatly attended lawns and flower gardens.
SFX uUMMMP!
Rick again does a double take at the Self-Realization Fellowship Temple.
George catches up with him.
RICK:
What's the deal with this place?
GEORGE:
Full of weirdos, man! Just kooks!
Rick shakes his head at George's ignorance.
RICK:
Man, your on such a bummer these days what gives?
George remains silent
FADE OUT
