SACRED
BATH
SFX Roaring river water
EXT. MORNING. BATHING GHATS
Baba climbs down the steps and finally reaches the
bathing ghats; then with difficulty he strips down to his
kaupin (loin cloth), and he wades his rickety old body
into the freezing waters and takes three quick dips in
the current. It is ice cold and his old heart begins to
tighten along with his throat. As fast as possible he
emerges from the river edge and wipes the freezing water
off his bare old body, which is racked with shivering.
SFX Hhhhhhh! Quick heart beats; breathing-shivering
sounds...
Shivering like mad Baba struggles to sit cross-legged on
the red stone ghat, and then he counts his gayatri mantra
silently meditating - sitting with a straight back, with
his sacred thread wrapped around his right thumb, as he
counts the mantras on his finger tips.
